As you can see, we went tandem style - to avoid either one of us chickening out (a girl in line just before did just that - had three chances and she just couldn't go - not helpful when you are trying to convince yourself to go).
The river below us is 43 meters down. This is the location where bungy jumping got its start so it was kind of cool to do it there. The sensation is a bit difficult to explain. Your mind knows you are safe, but as your body starts to plummet and the speed increases, it is tough to convince yourself it will be ok. I was surprised that there really isn't any snap or pulling feeling at the end. You slowly bounce at the end of a big rubber band.
Quite the operation to put this on. You get a pretty good sense that things will be ok when you see the complex and operation center at the site. While all we had to do was fall, you could sense that the guys running it were very safety conscious and everything was double/triple checked.
Chris Pine - the American actor best known for his role as Captain Kirk in the latest Star Trek movies - went right behind us. K loved that. I think she was more interested in telling people that news versus her jump.
After our bungy jump, K needed some wine to settle her nerves :)
So it was off to 3 local wine tours and a cheese creamery for sampling. This area is known for Pinot Noir wine, but also had some nice whites as well.
With nerves all calmed, it was back into Queenstown where we road a gondola to the hill overlooking Queenstown for some great views.
So that was our crazy day - you know - nothing out of the ordinary here in NZ.
